Land regeneration and livestock

Much of our conservation work focuses on restoring land affected by overgrazing, charcoal burning and soil erosion.

Letting nature heal

Protection and natural regeneration have enabled indigenous vegetation to recover, grass cover to improve and wildlife to return to parts of the conservancy. We have also established access trails to improve management and protection of the property.

The land around us is badly overgrazed and trees are cut for charcoal. After close to four years of conservation we are seeing major improvements: grass is growing back, trees are protected, erosion is slowing and wildlife is coming back.

Managing the grass with livestock

We run a land and grass management program using cattle and goats to maximize grass cover and clear unwanted shrubs.

What comes next

Our current growth-plan phase includes advancing the restoration of 200 hectares of riparian habitat.

Riverbank rehabilitation, indigenous vegetation recovery and erosion control are priority areas where partners can help.
